Most of the times we perceive changes as something "worst". Because most of the times we treat a change as something to compare to something else which in our opinion was better. For example , we think our bodies have changed because we compared them to how they used to look like some years ago.

And if we gain few pounds or if our arms do not look toned anymore, we quickly assume that we have changed for the worst and not for the better.

And here comes the challenge. We should perceive our body shapes not on the way they look, but rather on the way they make us feel. Instead of asking ourselves the usual questions like "why this belly fat?" or " when did I get these love handles?" or " when did I get so fat?", we should ask ourselves some different questions , such as " am I healthy?" and " am I taking care of myself?" and " do I really enjoy working out ?".

I am not saying that this is an easy challenge, challenges never are, but I guarantee you that once you change your approach on the way you perceive your body, you will start seeing positive results immediately.

And for the records , we also need to start being more realistic . We need to redirect our expectations to the right channel.

For example, talking about diverse body shapes, there are three different body types:

1. ectomorph =long and lean,

2. mesomorph =muscular and athletic,

3. endomorph =round and prone to putting on weight

If you are an ectomorph type you will probably maintain your slim shape even while you are ageing. An example is my mom. And by the way, she did not pass it onto me..thanks mom!!!

If you are a mesomorph you should definitely try to keep your body fit and toned .

If you are an endomorph you should find a specific workout that focus on balancing your weight.

But here comes my piece of advise to all of you. All the three body types should have an unique goal : stay healthy.

Remember ladies, you can be the ectomorph type and be unhealthy, unfortunately" skinny" does not necessarily mean "healthy"! We are all in this together , as they say...

And of course we can all improve. But again, we need to keep in mind a realistic expectation.

Like me, for example, I am definitely a "mesomorph " type , but I also tend to put on weight on my upper body ( and not on my lower body), so I am trying to keep my body toned and fit but I will never achieve an "ectomorph" shape. It is impossible.

So, again, work with the body you have, take care of it and take care of yourself and improvements will come along.

And by the way, body " acceptance" is something you should develop from the beginning of your existence , not only when you are ageing. Actually, the sooner the better. If most of the young women had the correct knowledge of their body shapes , they would save themselves a lot of crying and frustrations.

This being said , I am not telling you that you can not achieve a terrific figure. As a matter of facts, I am actually a strong believer that you can achieve a terrific body, it does not matter your age.

Just don't do it yourself. For instance, if you think you are eating unhealthy, find a specialist , like a nutritionist who can guide you and can put together a customized program. We are all different , we have different needs and we react in different ways to the same situation. And so do our bodies.

The same for your workout . Make sure you are healthy first, and then find out the types of exercises that fit better to your own "self".

But do not over do either! Take it easy and chill.

You should have fun while you are working out or you won't see any results. If you don't like to run, just do not run. If you do not like yoga, just pick something else. You can also try different activities and stick to the one that makes you happy. Who is a better judge than yourself?

Working out does not mean necessarily to practice a sport or to go to the gym. What about gardening if this is your thing?

You are outdoor , you move your arms up and down and back and forth and you can grow your own healthy organic kale!

And what about dancing?

This is one of my favorite thing to do actually. First of all , music is very therapeutic and it gives you good vibes and energy. Second of all, you burnt a lot of calories and you don't even realize it. And last but not least, you meet a lot of friendly and interesting people..you know..people like you and me.

And if sometimes you feel a bit lazy , it is perfectly normal, just chill and rest. A friend of mine , he is actually a personal trainer, once told me : " Sometimes a good sleep and some good food are better for your metabolism than any other form of work out" . Thank you very much, this is exactly what we want to hear.

You do not need to compare yourself to your twenty something self. It does not make sense. You are a different person now. You went through a lot, you experienced a lot, you are surrounded by different people, you might even live in a different city or even in a different country , so what is the point of comparing your "now" self to your self from decades ago?

Just between me and you , I have never had ABS in all my life , and here I am , at 49...here they are. It is not a miracle in any way, I changed my workout and I changed my nutrition. With no stress . Just working on improving my dear " mesomorph" body. If I can do it, everybody can do it!

Now I know exactly what piece of advice to give to my "younger" version. Well, technically my body looks younger than hers!!!

Stay tune, will talk wellness , nutrition and essential oils on my next post.

Feel free to tell me about your workout routine or what makes you happy. You can actually send me pictures of you to my personal email address: alessandrabeatricega@gmail.com.

Or just write to say hi and give me a virtual hug!
